Feb. 20 Deadline for Board Candidates to Submit Nomination Papers

PLYMOUTH – Members of the New Hampshire Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Co-op) interested in being considered for nomination to the Board of Directors should submit their material to the Nominating Committee by 4:30 p.m. on February 20, 2018.  More information is available here.

“The Co-op seeks highly qualified members with diverse personal, professional and geographical backgrounds, as well as broad education and experience,” says Steve Camerino, President/CEO at the Co-op.  “As a member-owned, non-profit organization, serving on the board of directors is one of the ways members have a direct impact on how this democratically controlled organization is run.  It is an important and rewarding job.”

Board members are elected to three-year terms.  Four of the 11 seats are up for election this year.  Election ballots will be sent to all members in May.  Those elected will be seated at the Annual Meeting of Members, Tuesday, June 19, 2018.

The Nominating Committee meets numerous times to review the applications and interview candidates for the Board of Directors.  After completing the process, they nominate a slate of candidates to be included on the ballot.  The candidates selected will be identified on the ballot as having been nominated by the Nominating Committee.

If you, or someone you know, are interested in applying, contact Sharon Yeaton at 603-536-8801 or yeatons@nhec.com for a candidate packet.

Colebrook Mobile Food Pantry Is Feb. 24

COLEBROOK, NH – The New Hampshire Electric Co-op (NHEC) Foundation and New Hampshire Food Bank recently announced that they will partner to provide food to Colebrook area residents in need via a mobile food pantry distribution on Saturday, February 24th at noon at the Colebrook Elementary School.

The NHEC Foundation provided a $5,000 grant for the seventh consecutive year to make the Colebrook mobile food pantry possible.  Volunteers from both sponsoring organizations will be on site to help unload and distribute the food to those in need at the school, which is located at 27 Dumont Street in Colebrook.

The mobile food pantry plans to provide approximately 15,000 pounds of food, the equivalent of about 12,500 meals, on February 24th as a supplement to food already available through local hunger relief agencies. NH Food Bank, a program of Catholic Charities NH, is the only food bank in the state, and its registered hunger relief agencies rely on the food bank for approximately 40 percent of the food they distribute each year.

The NHEC Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, is funded by the generosity of Co-op members who round up their monthly electric bills to the next dollar with the proceeds benefiting the Foundation.  Since being founded in late 2005, the Foundation has donated more than $3 million to support local charitable organizations and programs that improve the quality of life in New Hampshire.

***SAFETY ALERT: PEOPLE POSING AS NHEC EMPLOYEES

Police in several towns have received reports of people claiming to be NHEC employees who are seeking to gain access to members’ homes.

NHEC employees do make occasional unannounced visits to members’ homes for a variety of reasons, but always carry company identification and drive vehicles marked with the NHEC logo. If you are unsure of a person’s identity, DO NOT LET THEM INTO YOUR HOME. CLOSE YOUR DOOR, LOCK IT AND CALL POLICE.

Be aware that there are companies with sales people going door to door offering to sell electricity to NHEC members. You should always confirm their identity and their purpose for being there. Under no circumstances should they require access to your electric meter or get inside your house for any other reason related to your electric service.

Remember:

  • Confirm the identity of any person making unsolicited sales calls at your home – ask to see a company ID with photo.
  • Never provide any personal information like bills, account numbers or credit cards.
  • Never let anyone into your home without knowing who they are and why they’re there.

OUTAGE UPDATE
DECEMBER 23, 2017

Power restoration following the damage of today’s icy precipitation will continue into Sunday, December 24. All available NHEC crews are in the field and will work through the night until all members are restored. Approximately 3900 members were without power at the time of this update due to dozens of trees and limbs that have come down on power lines, mainly in the Lakes Region and central New Hampshire. Multiple broken poles have been reported. Restoration times are not available for all outages, however you can find status updates on the outage affecting you, when available, by downloading the SmartHub mobile app.

We apologize for the inconvenience this close to Christmas! We will be working hard tonight and tomorrow to get everyone restored as quickly as possible.
