NHEC Foundation Awards $60,000 in Grants to Nonprofits

Since 2006, the NHEC Foundation has awarded more than $3 million to charities and non-profit organizations that are working to improve the quality of life in NHEC service territory. The grant awards below were announced recently by the NHEC Foundation Board of Directors.

American Red Cross of NH/VT – Website Link
$7,500

The Red Cross of NH and VT approached the Foundation with the goal of targeting their Home Fire Campaign toward towns within our Sunapee and Raymond districts.  Our grant of $7,500 will allow the Red Cross, along with the support and guidance of emergency officials, to make 150 homes safer by installing new smoke alarms and helping to educate our members about the importance of fire safety and an emergency plan in the event of a home fire.

Carroll County YMCA – Camp Huckins – Website Link

Funding will allow two girls from Carroll County to attend the 2019 camp session. This grant will target underprivileged families who might not be able to afford to attend Camp if not for our grant.

Circle Program – Website Link

$4,500

Funding will help Circle program sustain their mission of providing girls from low-income New Hampshire families with new opportunities to learn the skills, courage and confidence they need to handle the challenges in their lives.

New Hampshire Food Bank – Website Link
$20,000

This large grant will serve two purposes; 1. Allow NHEC and the NHEC Foundation to continue hosting our annual Mobile Food Pantry in Colebrook, NH in early 2019.  2.  Enable the Foundation to “gift” account credits at the NH Food Bank to 30 different local pantries across our service territory!  This will be the 3rd year of gifting account credits which mean so much to the food pantries during the holiday season when the need for food greatly increases.

Northeast Organic Farming Association of NH (NOFA) – Website Link

Funding will support the Farm Share Program. NOFA piloted this program last year with great success.  With our support, we will work directly with NOFA to identify farm stands within our service area that will directly benefit our members that are interested in taking advantage of farm sharing but that might not have the means to do so.

Pemi Valley Habitat for Humanity – Website Link

This grant will support Pemi Habitats program, A Brush with Kindness.  This program works to help low-income homeowners with home repairs/improvements.  All projects will be located within NHEC service area.

Plymouth Park & Recreation Afterschool Program – Website Link

This grant will assist the Afterschool program with the purchase of healthy snacks for program participants.

Sullivan County Oral Health Collaborative
Located in Claremont
$5,000

Funding will help Sullivan County expand their community dental program which will directly benefit those members living in our Sunapee district.

White Mountain Community Health Center (WMCHC) – Website Link

$10,000

Funding will allow WMCHC to continue offering their Navigator Program.  The Navigator offers a critical service to patients to help them navigate the sometimes overwhelming process of insurance coverage, plans and other options, especially for patients with no access to a computer.

Emergency Outage Alert 10/2/18; 8 p.m.

EMERGENCY OUTAGE ALERT
Due to a voltage regulator failure in the Rumney Substation it will be necessary to de-energize the substation at 8 p.m. tonight for approximately 15 minutes to bypass the regulators. This will affect service to members in all or parts of Rumney, Orange, Ellsworth, Grafton, Groton, Wentworth, Dorchester, Warren, Hebron, Orford, Canaan, Piermont and Woodstock. We apologize in advance for the inconvenience as we work to make this critical repair. There is no need to report the outage as crews will be aware and on scene.

Vehicles, Equipment For Sale

New Hampshire Electric Cooperative (NHEC) is preparing to offer for bid, vehicles and equipment that are ready for disposition. This bid offering is being made available to the membership, Co-op employees and retirees with the disposal process and listing of vehicles as follows.

Member Solutions representatives cannot answer questions regarding vehicles and equipment being disposed. All questions will be answered during the two vehicle and equipment viewing dates listed.

Bid sheets for submitting bids can be picked up at the viewings. A separate sheet for each vehicle bid must be submitted. Sealed bids are due by the end of the workday (4:30 p.m.) Thursday, November 15, 2018.  Bid openings and awarding of bids will take place Friday, November 16, 2018. Vehicles are sold “As Is” and “Where Is” without warranties of any kind whatsoever. NHEC reserves the right to reject any and all bids.  NOT responsible for bids lost in the mail or late.

North Conway Member Wins 2018 Kathy Anderson Scholarship

PLYMOUTH, NH – Alexis Brochu of North Conway, NH was selected as the 2018 recipient of the 8th annual Kathy Anderson Scholarship.

Named for the late Kathy Anderson, wife of retired New Hampshire Electric Co-op President/CEO Fred Anderson, the scholarship was created to help a deserving New Hampshire woman who is seeking to better her life through education.

Brochu, a Co-op member, a mom of four and a North Conway resident, was unanimously chosen to receive the $2,500 scholarship to help continue her studies at White Mountain Community College, where she is pursuing her Degree in Health Sciences.  Alexis ultimately wants to complete her degree and work in the medical field. In addition to her dedication to family and studies, Alexis serves as the Vice President of the Board of the MWV Children’s Museum and is a Certified Personal Trainer, awarded as one of the top three trainers in the Mount Washington Valley by the Conway Daily Sun “Best Of” reader’s choice awards.

“Alexis is a very grateful and motivated woman with a strong passion for her family and her community.  This was very clear upon meeting her in person,” said Fred Anderson.  

The Kathy Anderson scholarship was established in 2011 and awards one, $2,500 scholarship annually to a non-traditional female learner over the age of 25 who is a US citizen, resident of NH and is a member of New Hampshire Electric Co-op.  Please click here for more information about this scholarship. The Kathy Anderson Scholarship is funded by individual contributions made in Kathy’s name to the NHEC Foundation, a 501 (c) 3 charitable fund that has contributed over $3 million to charitable organizations within NHEC service territory since 2006. 

2018 Scholarship Winners Announced

The New Hampshire Electric Co-op Foundation is pleased to announce its 2018 scholarship award recipients. This year the scholarship program received over 60 applications from candidates across the state vying for a $1,500 scholarship.

All applicants are either a Co-op member, or a dependent of a Co-op member.  The applicants were all scored based on their work experience and volunteerism, leadership contributions to their communities, educational/career objectives and overall scholastic achievement.  The field was narrowed down and 10 candidates who then completed a personal interview conducted by the Scholarship Awards Committee.

The following hard-working and dedicated young individuals were proudly awarded a $1,500 NHEC Foundation Scholarship.

  • Eric DuBois of Moultonborough will continue his studies at Brown University where he studies Biomedical Engineering. Eric was a 2017 NHEC Foundation Scholarship recipient.
  • Alison Haight of Sandwich will study Precision Machining & Manufacturing Technology at Southern Maine Community College.
  • Ashley LeBlanc of Northwood will continue her studies in Health Management and Policy at UNH.
  • Meagen Minaya of Alton will study Nursing at Rivier University.
  • Marianna Palladino of Tuftonboro will study Theatre at Connecticut College this fall.
  • Emmalee Riel of Barnstead will study Nursing at NHTI this fall.
  • Tiffany White of Barnstead will study Forensic Accounting at Thomas College this fall.
