NHEC Foundation to Host Colebrook Mobile Food Pantry Feb. 23

COLEBROOK, NH – The New Hampshire Electric Co-op (NHEC) Foundation and New Hampshire Food Bank will partner to provide food to Colebrook area residents in need via a mobile food pantry distribution on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at noon at the Colebrook Elementary School.

The NHEC Foundation provided a $5,000 grant for the eighth consecutive year to make the Colebrook mobile food pantry possible.  Volunteers from both sponsoring organizations will be on site to help unload and distribute the food to those in need at the school, which is located at 27 Dumont Street in Colebrook.

The mobile food pantry plans to provide approximately 15,000 pounds of food, the equivalent of about 12,500 meals, on February 23 as a supplement to food already available through local hunger relief agencies. NH Food Bank, a program of Catholic Charities NH, is the only food bank in the state, and its registered hunger relief agencies around the state rely on the food bank for approximately 40 percent of the food they distribute each year.

The NHEC Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, is funded by the generosity of NHEC members who round up their monthly electric bills to the next dollar with the proceeds benefiting the Foundation.  Since being founded in late 2005, the Foundation has donated more than $3 million to support local charitable organizations and programs that improve the quality of life in New Hampshire.

Feb. 14 Deadline for Board of Directors Candidates

PLYMOUTH – Members of the New Hampshire Electric Cooperative (NHEC) interested in being considered for nomination to the Board of Directors should submit their material to the Nominating Committee by 4:30 p.m. on February 14, 2019.  Application information is available on NHEC’s web site at www.nhec.com/board-of-directors/director-election-process.

“The Co-op seeks highly qualified members with diverse personal, professional and geographical backgrounds, as well as broad education and experience,” says Steve Camerino, President/CEO at the Co-op.  “NHEC is a member-owned, non-profit organization, and serving on the board of directors is one of the ways members have a direct impact on how this democratically controlled organization is run.  It is an important and rewarding job.”

Board members are elected to three-year terms.  Four of the 11 seats are up for election this year.  Election ballots will be sent to all members in May.  Those elected will be seated at the Annual Meeting of Members, Thursday, June 13, 2019.

The Nominating Committee meets numerous times to review the applications and interview candidates for the Board of Directors.  After completing the process, they nominate a slate of candidates to be included on the ballot.  The candidates selected will be identified on the ballot as having been nominated by the Nominating Committee.

If you or someone you know are interested in applying, contact Sharon Yeaton at 603-536-8801 or yeatons@nhec.com for a candidate packet.

OUTAGE UPDATE 1/9/19; 3 P.M.

NHEC and contract line crews have restored power to more than 13,000 members since this morning. Today’s heavy, wet snow is still causing outages affecting approximately 5,600 members. Crews are on scene and working on the largest current outages affecting members in Meredith, Holderness and Moultonborough. Other crews are spread across the central and western parts of the state, where they will be working overnight to restore power.

At this time, we expect to be substantially restored by 10 p.m. tonight. It’s likely that several hundred members who are part of smaller outages will remain without power overnight. If you are without power as of 10 p.m., you should expect to remain without power overnight. Our crews are working as quickly as conditions allow in the field. Gusty winds are adding to the challenge of restoring this storm damage. Thanks for your patience and support of our employees as we work into the night to restore power!
