Electric Choice and Competitive Power Suppliers What Freedom of Choice Means to You. Under Electric Choice, you have the freedom to choose your energy supplier. This is the company that will sell you electricity, should you choose not to buy it from New Hampshire Electric Cooperative. You can choose your energy supplier based on price, service options, environmental considerations, or any other factors that are important to you. New Hampshire Electric Cooperative will continue to be your electric distribution company and will continue to deliver the electricity to your home or business. As such, you will continue to be a member of the Cooperative, receive a monthly bill from the Cooperative, and the Cooperative will still distribute electricity over the same poles and wires used today, regardless of which energy supplier you choose to buy your electricity from. If the lights go out, call the Cooperative as always. Making a Choice As you learn more about the different energy suppliers and options available, you will have a number of choices. You can choose your energy supplier based on things that are important to you, such as lowest price or the environmental impact of different energy sources (e.g., coal, nuclear, wind, hydro). The New Hampshire Department of Energy offers a comparison tool. After you have made your choice, the switch is easy. All you have to do is notify the new energy supplier. Don’t call the Cooperative; we cannot make the switch for you. If you do not choose an energy supplier, your lights will not go out. You will continue get electric energy through Co-op Power provided by New Hampshire Electric Cooperative. Community Aggregation The New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission adopted Puc 2200 rules in October 2022 for the operation of Community Power Aggregations (“CPAs”). Towns and counties can create Community Power Aggregations that develop energy supply rates and renewable options. CPAs can be operated on an opt-out or opt-in basis. As is the case with Electric Choice, New Hampshire Electric Cooperative will continue to be your electric distribution company and will continue to deliver the electricity to your home or business. The Cooperative cannot enroll you with a CPA or stop an automatic enrollment with a CPA. If you live in a town or county with a CPA, please contact the CPA if you have any questions. Consumer Protection Whatever you choose, you will continue to receive dependable electric energy. All electric distribution companies and energy suppliers must continue to follow rules and regulations that protect consumers. The New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission will continue to monitor electric distribution companies and energy suppliers to ensure that New Hampshire consumers receive safe, reliable service.
